Tulip Tree Homeschool
at Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center

We are excited to launch the Tulip Tree Homeschool - a new Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center program to support local homeschool families.  Homeschool students between the ages of 7-11 will have the opportunity to learn amazing outdoor topics and skills including, but not limited to:

  • Plant identification

  • Bird language

  • Animal tracking

  • Fire building

  • Storytelling

  • Hazard awareness

  • AND SO MUCH MORE!

Through new experiences, learning outdoor living skills, and creative exploration our Tulip Tree students are supported to develop a stronger connection to themselves, the natural world, and their community. The Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center (OEC) has provided environmental science focused learning to students for over 65 years. Our curriculum is designed to engage students in environmental education, social emotional learning, and provides life-changing experience in nature. For each day, our Tulip Tree students will immerse themselves in hands-on, natural science within our 1000+ acre deciduous classroom.

Tulip Tree Homeschool will be hosted at the Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center on Tuesdays between September 19th - November 14th from 10:00a - 4:00p.

Students will be dropped-off at the Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center between 9:45-10:00a (1075 State Route 343, Yellow Springs, Ohio, 45387). Pick-up will take place at 4:00p. All adults conducting pick-up must be on the authorized pick-up list and show a valid ID.

Materials to bring include: a packed lunch, a full water bottle, weather appropriate layers, water shoes, and a day pack.  All shoes must be securely fastened to the foot and suitable for hiking. Long pants are highly recommended.

Registration:

To register you will first need to create an account through our website for your household or log-in to a previously created account.  If you are registering more than one child you may do so within a single account.  Select the Tulip Tree Homeschool program and desired additional options (purchase merchandise or add a scholarship donation).  Several forms are required upon registering and may be completed or updated prior to the start of the Tulip Tree Homeschool program.

Deposits ($100) are non-refundable and due at time of registration.  A one-time fee of $672 enrolls one student in 8 days with the Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center’s (OEC) Tulip Tree Homeschool.  Registration fees are due in full by September 11, 2023.  All unpaid balances as of September 11th will be processed by our staff using the last credit card on file.  Any Tulip Tree Homeschool registration completed after September 11th must be paid in full.

No deposit is required to be placed on the Tulip Tree Homeschool waitlist. Families will be notified as soon as an opening occurs. An inability to attend the first day offered to waitlisted students does not remove them from the waitlist for future opportunities. Prior to arrival, a $70 registration fee and all paperwork must be completed.

Scholarships:

The scholarship window for this fall season is closed. If you have additional questions about our scholarship process, please email Meigan at oecbusinessmanager@glenhelenassociation.org

Consider donating with your registration to help provide a Glen Helen experience to kids in need!

Cancellation Policy

The $100.00 deposit is non-refundable and required to hold your student’s spot for enrollment.  If a student's attendance must be canceled for a day, $70 will be refunded to those who notify us at least 14 days prior to the requested day of absence. No refunds will be made to those who cancel after this time frame. Each student may receive a refund for no more than two cancellations.

If Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center cancels a day of Tulip Tree School for any reason a partial refund of $70 will be refunded for each day canceled.  A partial fee will also be refunded for each day missed if the student or other member of the household has tested positive and is being treated for COVID-19.  A dated memo from a doctor is required if the camper is unable to attend for this reason.
